Wooden and Glass Options
Made for Our Yurts
We make a range of wooden doors, glazed doors and fitted windows designed specifically for Yurt Workshop yurts.
The right arrangement depends on the size of the yurt, how it will be used, and how much light, ventilation and privacy you want.
The Yurt Door Frame
Our door frames are made specifically for yurts and work with the shape, lattice wall and covers of the structure.
The raised threshold helps protect the entrance from wind, rain and dirt, while the lower lintel keeps the frame in proportion with the yurt wall.
Hand-forged rings on either side secure the lattice to the frame.
Built for the Yurt Structure
Yurt doors and windows must work with a flexible circular structure rather than a rigid conventional wall.
We use strong wooden frames and traditional mortise-and-tenon joints so that the units remain stable while fitting securely into the yurt wall.
Door height is normally kept close to the top of the yurt wall so that the frame sits naturally within the proportions of the structure. Taller arrangements can be considered where the yurt size and design allow.
Finishing
Each door and window frame is carefully sanded and finished with multiple protective coats suitable for exterior use.
The finish protects the wood while allowing the grain and character of the material to remain visible.
Hand-forged hinges and fittings can be finished to develop a darker, aged appearance that works well with the natural wood.
Yurt Door Options
Our door options include solid wooden doors, full-glass wooden doors, three-quarter glazed doors and double glass doors.
Each door is made to fit the yurt frame and is supplied with a security lock.
A solid door gives more privacy and shade. A full-glass or three-quarter glazed door brings more daylight into the yurt, while double glass doors create a wider entrance and a more open connection with the setting.
Yurt Window Options
We make fixed and opening wooden windows in several sizes. These can be used individually or combined with doors and other panels.
Fixed windows bring in natural light without adding moving parts. Opening windows provide ventilation and are useful where the yurt will be used for living, work or guest accommodation.
Windows can be positioned around the yurt to suit a particular view, the direction of the sun or the internal layout.
Fixed and Opening Windows
| Window Type | Available Widths | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed Wooden Window | 75 cm and 100 cm | Natural light and clear views |
| Opening Wooden Window | 100 cm and 170 cm | Light, views and ventilation |
Glass Wall Yurts
For a larger glazed frontage, doors, fixed panels and opening windows can be combined into a Glass Wall section.
The panels can be arranged around the entrance, a particular view or the way the interior will be used.
See our Glass Wall Yurts page for the main layouts and design options.
PVC Window Option
We can also supply flexible clear PVC windows as a lower-cost alternative to fitted wooden windows.
They bring light into the yurt, but they do not have the same appearance, insulation or durability as glazed wooden units.
“Thanks to you and Ratna, I have this incredibly beautiful yurt with so many windows that I have all the light I need for my work as a painter.” Jannicke Camilla, Spain
