What you Get?

Authentic Design Specialised for the European Climate

Our Yurts come in three levels of specification. Details of what to expect with each are described below.

The Standard Yurt

The collapsible trellis yurt frame comes in 2 or more sections.  The rustic chestnut poles that make up the trellis are stripped, oiled and chamfered. The walls are steam bent to give the yurt its characteristic shape and strength. Then they are tied together with strong polyester cord.  The yurt walls interlock and are secured using a traditional black tie.

The yurt roof poles are rustic chestnut.  The chestnut is sourced from a sustainable farm and straightened using steam.  These are oiled and a bridle is attached to one end to enable attachment to the walls.  This bridle is made how the Mongolians do it and this enables the roof pole to be flipped 180 degrees.  We know of no other UK/European made yurt that has this feature.

The 8 spoked wheel or crown is made of 26 pieces of solid oak.  It takes days to make and not the simple steam bent wood ring that comes with many UK made yurts. Using the traditional Mongolian pattern we create a beautiful feature. The crown is oiled (3 coats) with high-quality protective oils/finish to emphasise the grain.  The rim is mortised to accept the roof poles securely.  We offer a painting service and your crown can be painted with a traditional Mongolian pattern or design of your choice.

Door and Door Frame
As standard, the yurt comes with a Mongolian style door frame. Again this is a unique feature of our yurts. The Mongolian door frame is distinct.  It has a high threshold to prevent the ingress of wind, snow and dust. A low lintel to keep the heat in and avoid heat pockets in the roof above the door.  The frame is flat and strong and on each side are three hand-forged steel rings to bind the walls to the frame.

The standard yurt comes with a zipped canvas door.  For those who want it, our beautiful bespoke handmade wooden doors are available. These doors look amazing. All our wooden doors are fitted with a security lock.

These supports come with 18 foot and larger yurts as standard. They are very useful when putting the ger up and provide stabilisation in high winds and snow.  They can be taken down if they are not required.

Canvas Outer Covers
We now offer a choice of fire retarded and water and rot proofed* cotton/polyester or 100 % cotton canvas.  The mixed fibre canvas does have significant advantages and is much stronger and better suited to yurt covers than 100% cotton canvas. The polyester element (less than 50%) makes the material fast drying 100% cotton.
For those that want it the 100% cotton canvas is still available.
Walls: Our wall covers are adjustable so its easy to add or remove insulation layers.  The polyester cotton canvas is strong and durable and the bottom strip of the walls are made from PVC to prevent rot. The PVC skirt can be tucked under the yurt for added protection from the rain.
Roof: The roof covers are also fully adjustable. The benefits are the same as described for the wall covers and also make pitching the yurt simpler and easier.
The oak crown is covered with a canvas and vinyl transparent cover in the shape of a star with UV resistant polyester straps to allow it to be removed for ventilation. As it is transparent it allows the sunlight to fill the yurt.

The Insulated Yurt

The Insulated Yurt spec includes everything from the Standard Yurt Spec with additions as follow.
Felt Covers
If you are opting for an insulated yurt. We use 900g/m2 100% wool felt that is washed and treated with natural salts to give added fire retardancy.  The felt yurt covers are sewn in the traditional Mongolian pattern and come with a washable fire resistant inner liner.
In addition, the canvas covers are specially re-designed to allow easy fitting and adjustment of the insulation.

The Glass Wall Yurt

The Glass wall Yurt spec includes everything from the Insulated Yurt spec with approximately a third of the wall made up of wooden glass panels and a rustic wooden door with 2/3 glass.

Other Items

Tension Band: A strong and secure canvas tension band is supplied with every yurt.

Ropes and Pegs: All the ropes, webbing and 40 cm steel pegs are supplied.
Instructions: Full and easy to understand directions and telephone support come with each yurt.

Colour Me Beautiful

As you can see from the photo (right), I love colours and the richness they can create in our lives.

For some time we have offered sand canvas, and it has proved extremely popular.  It blends with most gardens, it is less stark and intrusive than white, and over the years I have come to appreciate and prefer it.
