Practical and Decorative Extras
Made for Our Yurts
We make a small range of accessories designed specifically for Yurt Workshop yurts, including painted crowns, woven tension bands, shelves, groundsheets and finished crown supports.
Some accessories are made as part of a new yurt order. Others may be available separately, depending on the yurt size, the design required and our workshop schedule.
Painted Crowns
The central oak crown can be painted and decorated by hand, turning it into a stronger visual feature within the yurt.
Each design is priced individually according to the size of the crown and the amount of decorative work involved. Our crowns range from approximately 60 cm to 160 cm across.
Woven Tension Bands
A woven tension band adds colour and detail around the inside of the yurt. These bands are commonly seen in Central Asian yurts and follow the circular line of the wall.
The band forms a natural part of the interior and gives the frame a more finished appearance.
Yurt Shelves
Our suspended shelves are made to suit the curved interior of the yurt. They are made from pine, finished with oil and wax, and hung using strong cord.
They provide useful storage for books, lamps, mugs and other small items without taking up floor space.
Heavy-Duty Groundsheets
We can supply heavy-duty groundsheets made from strong building-grade PVC. These sit beneath the yurt and help protect the floor area from moisture rising from below.
The edges rise approximately 20 cm around the wall, adding protection around the perimeter of the yurt. They are normally available in mid-grey or light blue.
Crown Supports
Crown supports are upright posts positioned beneath the central oak crown. In Mongolian gers they are often a permanent and decorative part of the structure.
For Yurt Workshop yurts of 18 feet and larger, a basic unfinished set is normally supplied to make pitching the yurt easier and safer. These can be removed once the yurt is standing.
If you want the supports to remain permanently in place, we can make a more finished version to suit the yurt. Permanent supports may also be worth considering where additional structural support is wanted.
Doors and Windows
We also make solid and glazed wooden doors, fixed and opening windows, and complete Glass Wall sections.
The available arrangement depends on the size of the yurt, the wall height, the position of the entrance and the amount of light and ventilation required.
