Every Yurt Starts Here
We make our yurts in our own workshop, from preparing the natural chestnut and making the oak crowns to fitting the doors, windows, insulation and covers.
Before a yurt leaves us, we assemble it here. That gives us the chance to see the whole structure together and make any adjustments before it reaches its final site.
From Chestnut to Yurt Frame
The wall frames and roof poles begin with natural chestnut. We select, shape and finish the timber ourselves, leaving the grain, colour and natural variation visible.
The lattice walls are drilled and tied by hand. A complete yurt contains hundreds of individual ties, allowing the walls to fold for transport while becoming a strong circular structure when opened out.
The Oak Crown
At the centre of the yurt is the eight-spoke oak crown. Each one is made by hand in the workshop, with the mortices cut to receive the roof poles at the correct angle.
Putting It All Together
Once the wall is standing, the crown and roof poles bring the structure together. Doors and windows are fitted as part of the assembly rather than treated as separate components.
We raise every yurt in the workshop before it leaves us. This is where we can check the frame, crown, poles, doors and windows together and make sure everything fits as it should.
Insulation and Covers
For our insulated yurts, the natural wool felt is fitted over the completed structure and cut around the doors and windows. The inner lining and outer covers are made to fit the particular yurt rather than simply supplied as generic pieces.

Making and assembling the yurt in the same workshop means we can see how all the individual parts work together before it is packed for delivery.
It is a straightforward way of working, but after more than twenty years of making yurts we still think it is the best one.
