Our Standard Yurt is the entry point into Yurt Workshop quality. It is our simplest yurt, but it is still built with the same care, materials and workmanship that define all of our yurts.
A Standard Yurt has a natural chestnut frame, a handmade solid oak crown, carefully fitted canvas covers and the clean, balanced proportions of a proper handcrafted yurt.
It is ideal for people who want a beautiful canvas yurt for seasonal use, garden space, retreats, summer accommodation, events, studios or simple living in milder conditions.
If you want a yurt for year-round living, colder climates or more regular residential use, we usually recommend choosing one of our insulated yurts. But if you want the simplest Yurt Workshop yurt, made to our usual standard, this is where to begin.
Standard does not mean basic in the usual sense. It means this yurt has canvas covers rather than wool insulation or a Glass Wall frontage. The essential structure, workmanship and finish are still Yurt Workshop quality.
We use a natural chestnut frame, a solid oak crown, well-made canvas covers and carefully finished woodwork. The yurt is designed to pitch cleanly, look beautiful and stand up to proper use.
The frame is made from natural chestnut, chosen for its strength, character and durability. It gives the yurt its structure, rhythm and warmth, and is one of the details that makes a Yurt Workshop yurt feel different from mass-produced alternatives.
The frame is finished to show the natural quality of the wood, rather than hiding it. It is practical, strong and quietly beautiful.
The crown is one of the most important features of a yurt. It is the centre of the roof structure, but it is also the part you see every time you look up from inside.
Our Standard Yurts include a handmade solid oak crown, made in the traditional eight-spoke design. It is strong, elegant and built to last.
The canvas covers are made to fit the yurt properly. We use high-quality tailor-made canvas, treated for water resistance, fire resistance and rot resistance.
A Standard Yurt is covered with canvas only, without wool felt insulation. This makes it lighter, simpler and well suited to seasonal use, events, retreats, garden spaces and warmer conditions.
For people who want to use the yurt throughout the year, especially in colder or wetter climates, our insulated yurts are usually the better choice.
We offer three standard canvas colours: creamy white, sand and light sand. Other colours may be available by special order.
You can also choose different crown cover colours, add doors and windows, or ask about other options depending on how you plan to use the yurt.
A Standard Yurt is a good choice if you want a beautiful, well-made canvas yurt and do not need the extra comfort of insulation. It works well for seasonal accommodation, summer retreats, occasional guest use, events, garden rooms, studios and sheltered sites in milder conditions.
It is also the most direct way to own a Yurt Workshop yurt: the same design quality, the same workshop care, and the same attention to detail, in our simplest form.
