Our Canvas Yurt is the foundation of every Yurt Workshop yurt.
This is the yurt in its simplest and perhaps purest form: a beautiful natural chestnut frame and roof poles, a solid oak crown, properly fitted canvas covers and the traditional proportions that give the whole structure its character.
It has everything that makes a yurt feel like a yurt. The warmth and texture of the wood, the pattern of the roof poles, the oak crown above you and that wonderful circular space that somehow feels both open and enclosed at the same time.
We have been making and refining these yurts for more than twenty years. The proportions matter, the materials matter and the workmanship matters. Get these things right and the whole yurt feels right.
For many people, this is exactly the yurt they need.

Chestnut Frame and Oak Crown
The natural chestnut frame is one of the things that sets our yurts apart.
We use chestnut because it is wonderfully suited to the job. It is strong, flexible and durable, but just as importantly it is beautiful.
We do not try to make the poles look like pieces of factory-produced timber. The colour, grain, bends and small irregularities remain. Once finished, the wood has a warm golden-brown colour and looks alive. It contributes enormously to the natural feeling you get inside one of our yurts.
At the centre of the roof is our solid oak crown.
We craft these here in the workshop using the traditional eight-spoke design. They are not simple things to make. The joints, angles and fit all have to be right, and making them properly takes skill and experience.
The crown is one of the focal points of the yurt and something our customers comment on again and again. Beautiful to look at, solid, strong and made to last.
That combination matters to us. We choose wood because it works properly, but also because of how it looks and how it makes the finished yurt feel.
Canvas Covers
The canvas matters enormously.
It has to keep the weather out, breathe properly, fit the yurt and still look good after years of use. We use a proofed polycotton canvas that we know and trust, with fire-retardant certification.
But good canvas on its own is not enough.
Our covers are made to fit the individual yurt. They are not simply sewn to a nominal diameter and dropped over the frame.
Over the years we have developed the way the covers overlap and adjust so that they can be fitted properly when the yurt is pitched. They can also accommodate changes in the thickness of the layers underneath.
We offer a range of canvas colours. Most people choose sand or light sand, which sit very naturally with the chestnut frame and work well in most settings, but the choice is yours.
Sizes and Prices
We make Canvas Yurts from 10 feet up to 25 feet in diameter.
Each size has its own starting price, which you can see on the individual yurt pages. Doors, windows, wall height and other options can then be added depending on what you want.

Ordering a Canvas Yurt
Ordering usually starts with a conversation.
There are lots of choices when you are buying a yurt, and the process of looking and thinking can be both exciting and challenging. Our website should help, but it cannot answer everything because every project is slightly different.
Those that know me will tell you I like talking about yurts.
Tell me where the yurt will be, what you want to use it for and anything you already have in mind. We can then work through the size, doors, windows, canvas colour and anything else that matters.
You do not need to have everything worked out before you contact me.
Once we know what you want, I will prepare a detailed estimate showing exactly what is included.
A 50% deposit confirms the order and puts your yurt into our workshop schedule. The remaining balance is due one week before dispatch. Delivery is quoted separately.
