Yurt Workshop is a small family business. We have been making yurts for more than twenty years, and we still make them here in our own workshop.
People who come to us after looking at other yurts often notice the difference. It is not one particular feature. It is the proportions, the materials, the way the covers fit and the way the whole yurt comes together.
First of all, we believe a yurt should look right. The pitch of the roof, the height of the wall and the size and shape of the crown all matter. Get those things wrong and, however well made it is, the yurt never quite looks right.
We use natural chestnut for the frame and roof poles, solid oak for the crown, carefully chosen canvas and natural wool felt in our insulated yurts. These materials give our yurts much of their character and make them immediately recognisable as Yurt Workshop yurts.
But a yurt also has to work properly. Over the years we have kept the traditional form and natural materials where they make sense, while changing materials and details where we have found a better way of making the yurt stronger, more weather resistant or longer lasting.
We are deliberately still a small workshop. There is a limit to how many yurts we can make, because making them properly takes time.
We make canvas, insulated and Glass Wall yurts for customers throughout the UK and Europe.

Glass Wall Yurts
We introduced our Glass Wall Yurt in 2013 and have been developing it ever since.
It keeps the natural chestnut frame, oak crown and proportions of the yurt, but allows part of the wall to be opened up with fitted glass doors, windows and wall panels.
It brings much more natural light into the yurt and, particularly where there is a view, completely changes the relationship between the inside and the landscape.
Insulated Yurts
Our insulated yurts use beautiful 100% natural wool felt insulation, together with a fire-retardant inner lining and our double-canvas roof system.
Wool felt is an ideal material for a yurt. It is natural, warm and highly insulating, and gives the yurt a substantial layer of protection between the inner lining and outer canvas.
The second roof layer gives added protection over the insulation and is particularly valuable in wetter climates.
Our insulated yurts are made for year-round use across the UK and Europe.

Made Properly
A yurt is, in many ways, a very simple structure. That does not mean getting one right is simple. The difference is in the details: the proportions of the frame, the crown and roof poles, the way the canvas is tailored to the frame, the way the covers meet and the materials chosen for each part.
Some of what we do is very traditional. Some of it has changed considerably over the years. If a modern material or method gives us a better result, we use it. If the traditional way remains the best way, we leave it alone.

Made in Our Workshop
We make the yurts ourselves. The frames, roof poles and crowns are made here, and the covers are cut and made for each yurt in our workshop.
Over more than twenty years we have changed plenty of details when we have found a better way of doing something. What has remained is the traditional character and proportions of the yurt.
We want them to look beautiful, work properly and last.
